William Heartt Reese 1931 & William Pingry Bigelow Scholarship Fund 1889

The William Heartt Reese 1931 and William Pingry Bigelow 1889 Scholarship Fund, established in 2018, is a permanently endowed fund providing financial aid to students who have shown exceptional ability in the study of music history, theory, composition, conducting or a performing art and who have contributed to the musical undertakings of the Music Department of Amherst College. The Fund honors William Pingry Bigelow, Class of 1889 and first professor of Music at Amherst College. The scholarships will be awarded to such students as determined by the Dean of Admission and Financial Aid, who will administer the Fund in accordance with financial aid policies set by the Board of Trustees. Preference will be for Amherst students who wish to study music abroad or to aid a senior music major who plans to continue the study of music at the graduate level.
