Reed Scholarship Fund

Established by the 1889 will of Charles Thayer Reed. Charles Reed owned a Boston provision store that catered to an excellent clientele. His only son, Charles, Jr., died while attending Amherst. His father spent the remainder of his life in Cambridge, MA, and devoted all his attention to charitable and religious causes. This annual scholarship is to be awarded to an indigent, worthy and promising student who has decided upon entering the Evangelical Congregational Ministry. These students are to be nominated by the faculty of the College and approved by the Hampshire East Association of the Congregational Ministry. If the student abandons the idea of the ministry, he is obligated to repay the fund within five years after graduation.
