Equal Chances International Scholarship Fund
The Equal Chances International Scholarship Fund was established in 2008 by Maria Gurewitsch Brand 1983 in memory of her beloved European grandparents, Meyer and Bessie Perkel, who immigrated to the United States early in the 20th century and made a new life for themselves but were not able to receive any formal education. This Fund also honors the European immigrant parents of Maria’s husband, Jacques Brand, Felix and Anita Brand, whose lives and educational circumstances were radically changed by tragic events of World War II. The Equal Chances Fund is intended to create and inspire new opportunities for deserving international students seeking admission to Amherst College, with a preference for students from European countries.
