Frances Chia Scholarship Fund
The Frances Chia Scholarship Fund was begun in 2001 and endowed in 2007 in memory of Frances Chia by the Chia Family Foundation on behalf of Katherine K. Chia 1988. It is a permanently endowed scholarship fund at Amherst College providing financial aid to two or more Amherst students per year with demonstrated need as determined by the Dean of Admission and Financial Aid, with a preference for selecting students in each of the following categories: 1) one or more high-need students of Chinese descent who are citizens or permanent residents of the United States, and 2) one or more non-high-need students of Chinese descent who are citizens or permanent residents of the United States. When possible and depending upon students’ eligibility, scholarships will be awarded to the same students year after year during their time at Amherst. These scholarship recipients shall be known as Chia Scholars.
