Harry E. Harkness 1898 Scholarship Fund

The Harry E. Harkness 1898 Scholarship Fund was established in 1987 through a trust established in the name of Virginia Harkness Sawtell. Virginia was Harry’s niece who inherited a portion of a trust established by Ethel Harkness Grace (Harry’s wife). Virginia’s portion of income from the trust was given to Amherst College upon her death. This scholarship is funded by a trust fund whose quarterly income is spent for general scholarship purposes.
