Luther Ely Smith 1894 Memorial Fund

The Luther Ely Smith 1894 Memorial Fund was established in 1951 in an agreement between the Memorial Fund (presumably established by friends as noted in the file) and the Amherst Alumni Association of St. Louis. The annual income derived for this Fund is to be used to assist needy and deserving students enrolled at Amherst College from the metropolitan area of St. Louis, MO. Recipients are selected by a Special Scholarship Committee of the Amherst Alumni Association of St. Louis. If the fund is not awarded for 5 consecutive years, then the College may make the award with preference for residents of St. Louis. $200 is the minimum award.
